This is a 3 year term position from the date of reporting.
Assignments and secondments may be considered according to NRC's policies.
Your Challenge
The successful candidate will be involved in stimulating technological innovation with Canadian small to medium sized enterprises (SME) in assessing and using technology, in assessing and making contributions to research projects, in solving technical and business problems, in improving productivity and profitability.
The incumbent will promote the awareness of and facilitate access to technical and business expertise, programs and services existing in NRC, government laboratories, universities and colleges by using the IRAP Network. He/she will develop and maintain a network of contacts and will concentrate interactions to serve Canadian industry in relevant specialized fields.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
University degree in a related discipline applicable to the position of interest (IT/Software/Hardware/Integration), e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or university degree in other discipline plus extensive equivalent related experience.
In addition, a business-related degree would be an asset.
Experience
Significant experience relevant to technology development and/or application in the following areas: Electronic systems,
Embedded systems, and Software Development.
Significant experience in at least two of the following areas: R&D, new product design/development, product commercialization.
Experience in working with or mentoring technology companies in business areas such as corporate governance, raising financing, recruitment, intellectual property analysis, and strategic planning.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical Competencies:
Knowledge of technology, innovation and commercialization issues in industry sectors relevant to IT and Software.
Knowledge of R&D as it pertains to helping SMEs grow their operations.
Solid understanding of the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Understanding of the technology and management of an SME.
Understanding of NRC-IRAP's role and objectives in NRC in providing advice to client firms at both the strategic and operating levels.
Behavioural Competencies:

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.
Salary Range
This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RCO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $36,384 to $116,915 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. In addition, an incumbent occupying a position within the RCO Groups is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $8,000 per year.
