Award Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for translation


Establishment
On the 31st of October 2006, King Abdulaziz Public Library Council approved the establishment of this annual international award for distinguished works of translation and for prominent institutions that contributed significantly to the field of translation from and into Arabic.

Purpose
1 To contribute to the transfer of knowledge from and into Arabic
2 To promote translation into Arabic in various fields of science
3 To enrich the Arabic archive by publishing distinguished works of translation
4 To recognize the achievements of institutions with outstanding contributions to the field of translation from and into Arabic
5 To establish standards of excellence in translation with regard to originality, scientific value, and text quality

Categories
1 Translation Award for institutions
2 Translation Award in humanities and social sciences from, Arabic into other languages
3 Translation Award in humanities and social sciences from, other languages into Arabic
4 Translation Award in natural sciences, from Arabic into other languages
5 Translation Award in natural sciences, from other languages into Arabic

: The Prize
The award consists fo the following:
1. An award certificate detailing the reasons for granting the award.
2. A cash prize of five hundred thousand Saudi Riyals ($133,000).
3. A gold medal
TERMS AND DOCUMENTS (Works of Translation)
NOMINATION TERMS No.
Nominations may be submitted by individuals or institutions. 1
Nominations must adhere to the announced topics. 2
Translation must be either from or into Arabic. 3
Works of translation should be recent; their date of publication must not exceed five years before the date of nomination (not before 1424H - 2003). 4
Works that have previously received an award for translation may not be nominated. 5
No more than one work per translator may be nominated. 6

QUALIFICATIONS No.
Original text must be distinguished. 1
Text must be written in the standard, formal language. 2
Both original and translated texts must comply with intellectual property laws. 3
Accuracy in translation and precision in documentation must be observed. 4

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS No.
A completed nomination form 1
A written statement (1000 words) about the original text and the value of its translation 2
Translator’s resume & a personal photo 3
A copy of the permission of translation, granted by publisher of original text 4
Three hard copies of original text and three hard copies of the translation (not to be returned whether or not the translation is awarded) 5

Nominations may be submitted by individuals or institutions. 1
Nominated institutions must enjoy prominent reputation for their distinguished services in the field of translation from and into Arabic. 2
Institutions that have previously received the award may not be nominated. 3
His excellency showed that a number of nominated works for the five fields was186 works in 16 languages from 30 countries which are:

K.S.A, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Spain, Germany, U.A.E., U.S.A.,The Sudan, Iran, Italy, Brazil, Bosnia,Turkmenistan, Bahrain, Tunesia,Russia, Japan, Syria, Iraq, France, Qatar, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Niger and India.


About organizing the prize by king Abdul Aziz Public Library, his Excellency Mr. Faisal Bin Moammar said: that the role king Abdul Aziz Public Library plays in organizing such prize is in accordance with its comprehensive civilizational message in serving the society and achieving the cognitive continuity between humanitarian knowledge makers and the recipients.
